Carrick House (formerly Beechlands)

Land shown in Tithe Apportionment Map 1842
Plot 444a Upper Beech, 443 Lower Beech
Owner Robert Watts Esquire Occupier Edmund Simes Arable

The house is believed to have been built c 1920 by Mr Cramp, after he retired from running the village stores. The original property was just two bedrooms, but had a substantial (60 foot long) glasshouse at the end of the garden, heated by a boiler house, where Mr Cramp grew fruit which he sent to London for sale.

The glass was removed (probably after WW2 due to fuel costs) but the site and the 60ft long brick wall survive and have been used as a vegetable garden.
