Dallington ‘Six miles from everywhere’: The History of a Sussex Village
This book by Karen Bryant-Mole draws on documentary sources and the knowledge and memories of many Dallington residents. It was published in December 1999 to celebrate the millennium. It contains an outline history of the village since 1000, and lots of fascinating photographs and accounts of life here from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. It is the best place to start for anyone researching their family or any aspect of local history.
Karen continued to share her time and expertise, even after she and her family moved to Devon. She updated the text in 2015 for a possible reprint, and generously assigned any book profits to the Parish Council to use for the benefit of the village. Sadly, Karen died in 2019, but her family have very kindly given permission for us to publish the electronic version of the 2015 text here so that it will continue to be available to people researching local or family history. Thank you Pauline, I have downloaded, Roy has certainly put a lot of hard work into this project. The books is really interesting.
Hello Roy, I enjoyed reading Dallington remembers. I am currently researching Percy Harmer who was my great great uncle and I thought you might be interested to know he is apparently commemorated on the war memorial in Eastbourne Town Hall. http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Sussex/Eastbourne_WW1_H.html
