Woodsell – Wodsells Hasshe ‘Walter de Wodeselle’ 1288 [EPN] [1]
Stream Farm (Woodsell), Dallington. Extant medieval farmstead. The farmstead is formed of a loose courtyard with two sides of the yard formed of agricultural buildings and additional detached elements to the main plan. The farmhouse is set away from the yard. The farmstead is in an isolated location. All the traditional buildings remain extant.
Grade II Formerly called Woodsell. Timber-framed building. The south end is C14, the north end C17. Both have been refaced in the C18 with red brick and grey headers alternately. Half-hipped roof. Casement windows with small square panes. Gabled porch. 2 storeys and attic. 4 windows. 2 gabled dormers. C17 panelling inside. 14th century probable four bay hall house with two bay hall, of which only fragments of the end-jettied parlour bay and upper hall bay survive. Hall floored over in late 16th/early 17th century and ceilings inserted into hall and parlour chambers. Extensively altered in late 17th/early 18th centuries, including underbuilding of earlier structure, with tile hanging above, addition of rear brick built lean-to, and reconstruction of lower hall bay and services in brick. Remaining first floor walls of earlier structure replaced in brick by the later 18th century and roof partially rebuilt in late 19th-early 20th centuries.
